What is a CSA
"COMMUNITY-SUPPORTED-AGRICULTURE"
is a unique model of agriculture where people become members of a specific farm
by paying a yearly fee. In return
they receive a wide variety of local in-season foods harvested at their peak of
ripeness, flavor, vitamin and mineral content and given to you in a
weekly/bi-weekly CSA farm share box. Community Supported Agriculture is about
FRESH, natural/chemical free, locally grown, quality produce direct from the
farm; from YOUR farm! We provide
our members with farm products picked, washed, and delivered each week
to your
pick-up location.
In
addition, you can call ahead and place an order for farm fresh meat to be
included in your weekly/bi-weekly CSA farm share box. These products are available all year long.
As
a member of Little Footprint Farms’ CSA, you are encouraged to call and
schedule a visit to the farm and take part in planting, mulching, weeding,
harvesting, and enjoy other fun activities on the farm, i.e. visiting the
animals, swimming, camping, fishing, canoeing, and hiking. You will be
notified of educational opportunities, potlucks, and musical events via our newsletter.
Welcome to healthy eating with a conscience.
CSA operations provide more
than food; they offer unique ways for eaters to become involved in the
ecological and human community that supports the farm. Being involved with a CSA is sharing in
the rewards of farming; knowing where, how, and by whom your food is being
produced; having a direct connection with the people who produce your food; and
supporting the kind of stewardship that is good for the land as well as its
people; together sharing in the harvest and the risks.
Currently three acres are set
aside for produce sustainably and naturally grown without chemicals or
herbicides. A wide variety of
seasonal vegetables (50+) are harvested and obtainable for our CSA members and
Farmers Market.
This 2010 season Little
Footprint Farm is offering Full and Half CSA Farm Shares for Summer/Fall:
- Full Share (weekly) = enough produce for a family of 2/3 adults +
children (approximately ½ of a bushel of produce in 5/9 bushel box) for 18 weeks.
- Consider splitting a farm share with a friend or contributing to a
share
for a family in need.
We
generally begin our season in mid June. The weather will determine this date and you will receive 18 Full Share
boxes of vegetables each week or 9 Half Share boxes of vegetables every other
week from that date. We use 5/9
bushel sized wax boxes. You return
your box each week to the dropsite where you pick up your new box of
vegetables. You can call us to
request add-ons, like farm fresh eggs,
chicken, turkey, or beef.
We have dropsites with
members in Minneapolis and St. Paul, as well as the East Side Co-op (2551 Central Avenue NE, Minneapolis, MN), and River Market Co-op (221 North Main St., Stillwater, MN). In expanding our CSA this year, we will be adding sites as they occur. We will send the added locations to you
by June 1st and you can decide which address works best for
you. Because our dropsites are
members, we do not list these addresses on our website.
Due to our CSA shareholder growth
we are combining our efforts with our long time Amish friend who uses our same
natural growing methods.
Together we offer a wide
variety of seasonal vegetables—grown naturally and sustainably with no
pesticides or sprays. This list will give you an idea of the produce we have
grown and some new ideas for this year. The number next to the vegetable
signifies the amount of varieties:
